BLUEBERRIES: THE MOST DELICIOUS ERICACEOUS

Jenkins Arboretum & Gardens

Wed, Mar 10, 2010, 7pm - 8pm

Tickets: 0

Attend this lectiure and become enchanted by the flowers, fruit and fall foliage of this ornamental edible.

Blueberries are in the genus Vaccinium of the heath family (Ericaceae) and there are several native species from highbush to lowbush. If you can successfully grow other ericaceous acid-loving plants such as azaleas, rhododendrons, pieris, and mountain laurels, you can easily grow blueberries. Think of the addition of an edible landscape to your garden. Plant a few for the birds or a whole patch to rewrad the gardener.

Learn about blueberry culture, varieties, nutritional benefits and why every landscape has room for this wonderful native shrub. Pre-registration is suggested, if you want to be sure to get a fresh blueberry muffin, but it is not required.
