Blue Bird Walk
Tyler Arboretum
Sat, Apr 28, 2012, 10:30am - 11:30am
Tickets: 0
— Each walk is one hour in length —
Once as common as robins, by the 1960s blue birds were experiencing a near disastrous drop in population due in part to loss of habitat for raising their young. Providing nest boxes proved to be a successful solution and some of the first in the area were installed at Tyler Arboretum in 1974. Each year more were added and we now have over 40 boxes that are maintained and monitored by a group of dedicated volunteers. Over successive decades, generations of bluebirds have returned to Tyler to raise their young. Join Suzanne Clauser and other volunteers for a fascinating look at Tyler’s bluebird program. You’ll have the opportunity to learn all about these beautiful creatures and see the adults in their natural habitat. Attendees will receive instructions on how to make their own bluebird nesting box.
Please wear footwear suitable for walking; light refreshments will be served. Adults only. Pre-registration is required by Monday, April 23; space is limited. To register, please call the Visitor Center at 610-566-9134 x212. Rain or shine
