A Naturalist's Expedition to the John James Audubon Center at Mill Grove

Morris Arboretum of the University of Pennsylvania

Sat, May 5, 2012, 10am - 3pm

Tickets: Members: $60; Non-members: $70

Visit the first American home of artist, naturalist, and ornithologist John James Audubon on this trip to the John James Audubon Center at Mill Grove. We will tour Audubon's home that contains a collection of some of his beautifully rendered bird paintings as seen in his book, Birds of America, which was published in the early 1800's and is still an influential work today. Over 175 species of birds and 400 plants have been identified on the grounds of Mill Grove. Today the 175- acre estate is well preserved and much like it was when Audubon left it. After we tour the house, we will explore the rest of the estate's property, and its impressive collection of large native trees. Horticulturist Ken LeRoy will identify and talk about these specimens and what makes them unique. We will park in the meadow by the entrance kiosk and travel by small bus. Please bring a bag lunch and something to drink.
