Early Evening Birding at the Arboretum

Morris Arboretum of the University of Pennsylvania

Wed, May 9, 2012 - Wed Jun 6, 2012, 4pm - 6:30pm

Tickets: members $45, non members $65

The early evening is a great time to see birds, when most visitors have left for the day and quiet descends on the Arboretum. Birders at any level of experience are welcome. We will visit a variety of habitats that attract birds including the wetlands, meadows, and woodlands. We will stroll out onto the canopy walk, Out on a Limb, to be at birds-eye level. We will observe birds like bluebirds, tree swallows, and eastern kingbirds. We will also observe migratory songbirds such as warblers and sparrows and may see shorebirds that often visit the wetlands at this time of year. During the second session we will have a chance to visit Bloomfield Farm, a great place for birding, and visit the historic mill and spectacular iris garden located there. Ruth will provide a spotting scope and field guides. Bring binoculars. This class meets twice.

Wednesday, May 9 (Park in the grass lot next to the Arboretum entrance kiosk)
and
Wednesday, June 6 (Meet at the Horticulture Center Parking Lot at Bloomfield Farm. Enter the road directly opposite from the public garden entrance)
