Art Inspired by Nature and Nature Inspired by Art

Morris Arboretum of the University of Pennsylvania

Wed, Dec 5, 2012, 2pm

Tickets: Members: $18 Non-Members: $20

Everyone deserves art and what it does for
you just as everyone deserves nature and
what it does for you. Grounds for Sculpture, the public sculpture garden and museum
in Hamilton, New Jersey was envisioned
by J. Seward Johnson, sculptor and philanthropist, to make contemporary sculpture more accessible to people from all backgrounds. Tom Moran, Chief Curator and Director of Artistic Development at the 42 acre site, will share an inside view of how landscape and art work together to create a unique experience for visitors. Moran will preview some of the exciting future exhibition plans for the new seven-acre wildflower meadow that featured the works of Steve Tobin earlier in 2012. Moran is well known for the role he has played in public art during 30 years at the New Jersey State Arts Council. He will conclude our armchair tour with visits to some of those significant public artworks within a short distance of both Grounds for Sculpture and Philadelphia and discuss the ways in which the most successful public art is inextricably linked with its surroundings.
