Workshop Title: Garden Photography Master Class at Chanticleer

 

Workshop Dates: October 1-3, 2010

 

Workshop Description:   Three-day master workshop in garden photography taught by award-winning photographers Alan Detrick and Roger Foley. This master workshop is designed for serious photographers who want to increase their proficiency in photographing gardens and related horticultural subjects. The course includes digital presentations, demonstrations, one-on-one photo sessions in the garden; critiques of work created during the weekend, and will cover all digital photography.

 

Instructors:        Alan and Linda Detrick are the owners of a stock photography business specializing in horticulture and related subjects.  Alan’s award winning work has appeared in most major publications including Modern Maturity, Meredith, Natural History, the New York Times, Newsweek, Prentice Hall, Reader’s Digest, Sports Illustrated and Sunset.

 

An experienced instructor, Alan has lectured and led photography workshops for a select group of professional organizations and public gardens including the American Horticultural Society, Garden Club of America, the Garden Writers Association, The New York Botanical Garden, Chanticleer Garden, Brookside Gardens, and Longwood Gardens.

 

As a noted garden and landscape photographer, his work has been featured in The Perfect Home: Leading Residential Landscape Professionals and on the covers of the Landscape Design Answer Book, Garden Design, Horticulture, The American Gardener, Garden Style and Woman’s Day Gardening and Outdoor Living as well as posters, note cards and billboards.  His new book, “Macro Photography for Gardeners and Nature Lovers”, published by Timber Press, was released in November, 2008.

Roger Foley: Anyone who has purchased garden books and magazines over the last 20 years has seen Roger Foley’s award-winning covers, photo stories and stock images of magnificent landscapes.  In the last nine years, his work has received top honors 11 times from the Garden Writers Association.  Last year, he won the Gold Award for Best Talent in Photography, plus receiving the top award for his portfolio of magazine assignments and yet another for his latest book, Seascape Gardening.                                                                                                                                                                                                                        

A photographer for more than 30 years, Roger’s work has earned him an international reputation and he travels extensively for magazines and landscape

architects.  His work appears in many magazines including Cottage Living, Garden Design, Gardens Illustrated, Southern Accents, Horticulture, Metropolitan Home and Landscape Architecture.

He is also the sole photographer on nine books which range from Williamsburg’s Glorious Gardens to The Gardener’s Iris Book to A Man’s Turf: The Perfect Lawn. His book, Washington’s Gardens at Mount Vernon: Landscape of the Inner Man also won the Award of the Year from the Garden Writers Association. His work has appeared in Jim Van Sweden’s Gardening with Water, Gardening with Nature and The Architecture of the Garden. His next book gave him the opportunity to photograph 31 historic gardens in Virginia for a book published in 2009 by The University Press of Virginia.

Workshop Schedule:      Friday evening, October 1: Lecture 7pm -9pm

                                    Saturday, October 2: 7am – 6pm

                                    Sunday, October 3: 8am – 3pm

 

Registration Information: Registration is based on portfolio review. Send a minimum of six, maximum of 12 images of an assortment of subjects, in close as well as overall views (slides, prints or cd’s), Indicate your profession, your name, postal address, phone number and email address to:

Portfolio Submission deadline: August 31, 2010 (If you want to have your photographs returned, please include a pre-paid, self-addressed envelope.)

 

You will be notified about portfolio acceptance by September 15, 2010.

 

Registration fee: $375 includes all three workshops, light supper on Friday, continental breakfasts and lunches Saturday and Sunday
