Longwood Gardens hosts International Orchid Show and Sale, March 30 to April 1

An expanded orchid display will be featured at Longwood through May 13.

KENNETT SQUARE, PA – Spectacular orchids fill Longwood Gardens when the world’s premier horticultural showplace hosts the Longwood Gardens International Orchid Show & Sale March 30-April 1, 2007. Sponsored by the Southeastern Pennsylvania Orchid Society (SEPOS), the three-day judged show will feature exhibits by regional orchid societies and renowned vendors. The weekend show is the first event in Longwood’s new expanded orchid display, running through Mother’s Day, May 13. Featuring thousands of blooms throughout the conservatory, Longwood showcases the revered orchid with innovative displays, interesting talks and tours, and memorable exhibits. Orchid Show & Sale Set in Longwood’s magnificent Conservatory, the judged International Orchid Show will feature 30 exhibits by regional orchid societies and popular vendors. The show free with Garden admission and is open Friday, noon-6 pm, Saturday & Sunday, 9 am-6 pm. The Orchid Sale will include 16 vendors from the Continental U.S., Hawaii, and South America offering a wide selection of orchids that will delight both novice and expert growers. The sale, located in Longwood’s Special Events Pavilion, is free with Garden admission and is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 9 am to 6 pm. Vendors participating include A & P, Andy’s Orchids, Celebrate Orchids, Create A Scene, Ecuagenera, Fishing Creek, H&R Nurseries, Kelly’s Korner, Lois Duffin Orchids, Miranda Orchids, Parkside Orchid Nursery, Stony Brook Orchids, The Five Senses, The Orchiphile, Waldor Orchids, Woodstream Orchids and more. In addition to the show and sale, Longwood is offering a number of informative talks, lectures and special events throughout the weekend spotlighting orchids from around the world. Talks include The Ocean’s on the Left—Orchids of The West Coast; Orchids, Whales and Polar Bears—Orchids of Canada; Orchids, Snakes and ‘Gators—Orchids of the Deep South and Backyard Surprises—Orchids of Pennsylvania. Visitors can also explore lectures on Beginner and Advanced Orchid Culture for Oncidium and for Cypripedioidea orchids. A photo exhibit of orchids native to North America depicts the unique form, texture and amazing color of these special varieties. A special evening Gala is slated for Saturday, March 30 including a buffet dinner, dancing among the orchids and special orchid presentations and tours.
